maybe i'm biased but this is the only appleseed movie with both a compelling narrative and adequate animation. its predecessor has fairly horrible animation, and its successor has a very underwhelming story. ex machina is in the acceptable middle. it has a truly cinematic story, feeling like something that could easily be on the big screen- while the other two really do feel like direct-to-video fare. also, ex machina has personality and flare, while a lot of cg films around the same time were more concerned with realism over expressiveness which led to a lot of stiff and boring characters.... read
