In 2015, fifteen years after a global cataclysm known as the Second Impact, Ikari Shinji is summoned to the city of Tokyo-3 by his estranged father Gendou, the Supreme Commander of NERV. if this can be defined as the introduction to nge universe as the ultimate vision of the director it did a decent job, but other than that it was just a big budget eva explosions porn with nostalgic characters and arcs. all in all based on only this film alone i'm not sure if this reshoot to the series was necessary. read

as someone who just finished the show a few weeks ago, and immediately followed it up with end of evangelion, i was eager to revisit the material. maybe pay closer attention, really take it in as much as possible. not wanting to rewatch the entire show already, i found the prospect of a trilogy of revisionist films to be an exciting one. summarizing what i've already seen through a sharper and more cinematic lense, this movie does an admirable job. it effortlessly plunges viewers into the bizarre and emotionally paranoid work of evangelion. as it's only the beginning of a story, i can't yet... read
