Kaguya-hime no Monogatari

absolutely gorgeous, charcoal drawings with watercolour palette, the tale of princess kaguya might be the most visual appealing ghibli movie out there so far. not to be demeaning but ghiblis biggest director, miyazakis art style is often familiar but it works well enough for the film and miyazaki attention to details (see spirited away, the busiest feature-length ghibli film) is so spectacular that he definitely earned a spot as one of the best animation director so far. but isao takahatas filmography hardly looks similar, hes willing to experiment with different animation style. 14 years read more

moving and imaginative in its simplicity and rawness, a throwback to an animated era of yesteryear, detailing a legend from even further back. the painted colours and minimalist lines show takahata's longing to tell an emotive tale of how much he and the moon/bamboo princess long to remain, and why not, for every world and studio needs its artistic art-house films and filmmakers, to carry literary imagination onto the silver screen. read more

i dont think ive ever seen an animated film all in watercolor before this one. all the more reasons to love this film. read more
