When you watch 90% of the video on Plex, Plex server will send a ping to the Webhook URL that you watched 90% of the video and Simkl will mark this video as watched in your Simkl profile.
This works for TV Show, Anime episodes and Movies. Connects to your personal Plex account and it does not matter on which Plex server you’re watching.
You can also rate Movies and Shows on Plex, and it will save your ratings to Simkl as well.
PS: Requires an active Plex Pass and Plex Server running v1.3.4 or newer.
3. Click “Add Webhook”
on the Plex website. 4. Paste the Simkl Webhook URL and click Save.
You’re all done! Now watch an episode or a movie, and Plex will mark it as watched on Simkl.
In case that does not work, try the following:
1. Open Plex Settings
2. Click the Network tab
3. Scroll down and enable the "Webhook" checkmark and click Save Changes button
Don't have a Plex Pass?
The easiest way to use Simkl Webhook is with Plex Pass. But if you don't have a Plex Pass you can install a free app called Tautulli on your media server that will connect with Plex and then add webhook settings for it there.
Install Tautulli for Plex from https://tautulli.com/ This is the hardest part, take your time to install and don't panic, ask for help on Tautulli's Discord or Github if you're having trouble installing it.
Open Tautulli Settings
Open "Notification Agents"
In "Configuration" tab paste plex webhook URL from above
Webhook Method: Post
Description: Simkl Webhook
Open "Triggers" tab and only select "Watched" checkmark
Open "Data" tab and click "Watched" item to expand. Keep JSON Headers empty and paste the following into "JSON Data":
{"event":"media.scrobble","user":"{username}", "Metadata":{ "title": "<episode>{show_name}</episode><movie>{title}</movie>","type":"{media_type}","parentIndex": "{season_num}", "index": "{episode_num}", "year": "{year}","guid":"/{themoviedb-<themoviedb_id}/{imdb-<imdb_id}<episode>/{thetvdb-<thetvdb_id}</episode>/{anidb-<anidb_id}/{season_num}/{episode_num}/"} }
and click Save
(Optional): If you have multiple users on the same plex server, open Conditions tab and add Username is [select your username]
Go back to Tautulli Settings and click Restart
All set, now whenever you watch something it should be marked on Simkl as watched.
How to correctly track Anime in Plex?
The way Plex handles anime is different than how Simkl does. Plex organizes releases of a series into "seasons" using american TVDB\TMDB info while Simkl organizes them as seperate sequels and prequels as they are released in Japan.
For Simkl to be able to accurately track your Plex watch activity of anime you need to use an agent that adds AniDB ID information to your media. This will allow Simkl to understand what episode you finished watching even though Plex is organizing it a different way.
For AniDB style data the HTTP AniDB Metadata Agent (HAMA) can add this information.
It is recommended that you create a seperate library in Plex specifically for anime as agents for Plex are chosen per library.
Navigate to your Plex Media Server main folder NOTE: depending on how you deployed Plex this folder will be located in a different location. The README on Hama.bundle's github lists these locations. For Windows, it is located under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\
If it doesn't already exist create a folder named "Scanners" and inside it, another named "Series"
Place "Absolute Series Scanner.py" inside the "Series" folder
Navigate back to the Plex Media Server main folder and create a folder named "Plug-ins", if it doesn't already exist
Place the "Hama.bundle" folder in "Plug-ins"
Restart Plex Media Server if it is running
In Plex navigate to Settings > Manage > Libraries
Highlight your Anime library and click Edit Library > Advanced
Set your Scanner to "Absolute Series Scanner" and your agent to "HamaTV"
