this might be my first noir, featuring a woman as the protagonist and main 'detective'. carol, played beautifully by ella raines, is a strong and determined female lead. this strength could have been easily undercut if the film went for a more sexual presentation. luckily this doesn't happen and what we are left with is a strong female character who has complete control. she uses her wits to get by rather than just blatant sensuality. this doesn't mean that sexuality isn't used, it's just not misused. carol is well aware of her own sensuality and isn't afraid to use it but she stays in read more
