okay i finally get it, now that i've made it through that first hour. i actually didn't mind it that much, in retrospect it's like it's giving you (too much) time to mentally prepare for what's to come and boy howdy that second hour is just bananas and very much delivers on its concept. tangerine dream is kinda underused, though. read

a visceral gut-punch of a movie that feels like the purest, nerviest, realization of an 'adventure' story. as friedkin tried to convey plot and storytelling with looks and body language over dialog- it feels moot to write too much about the movie. a stunning experience. read

Four desperate men accept driving two trucks of extremely volatile explosives through a South American jungle. Friedkin's legendarily ill-fated remake of Clouzot's "Wages of Fear" has a 4-part, globetrotting prologue that's needlessly confusing but once it finally gets the trucks started there's no turning back. A riveting watch that deserves central stand in the history of movies created through superhuman, obsessive and self-destructive efforts. read

Theres a moment in the interview with William Friedkin which forms this Blu-ray discs only extra in which he insists that Sorcerer is not a remake of The Wages of Fear, the award-winning and highly praised drama directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot in 1953. But given the dedication to Clouzot which ends Sorcerer, this seems a little disingenuous, especially given that some scenes and even shots are identical, and therein lies the big problem with Sorcerer. Once you have seen The Wages of Fear, this is but a pale imitation.
Four unlikeable men on the run... read
