hoop-tober 2.0: film 31
***********************************************************************
i was under the impression that the remake was much better than this film. i was under the impression that this was a lame god-awful slasher cheapie from canada. i was wrong.
i hated this as a kid but there is actually lots to like. sure it's not great, and i wouldn't really recommend it to the general public but it's got enough for a horror buff to find some merit in it.
i didn't think the pacing started off good and it was rather slow and boring but it picked up in the last half hour and was rather exciting. i also thought that for the most part the acting was horrendous although for every two terrible performances there is one good one. i also thought it got better as it went along.
the setting and small town was fantastic and the gore effects (extended edition) were amazing and gross and make the film worth seeing just for the deaths but there is a severe lack of nudity in this film and with plenty opportunity for a breast to be shown it sure does disappoint.
the miner costume used for the killer is amazing and iconic and makes for a great unknown killer but other than that (and the deaths) this feels like another cash-in rip off to follow in the footsteps of halloween and friday the 13th.
i'll give you that it is one of the first cash-in's and probably one of the better ones but it still is kind of lame, kind of amateurish and terribly written. it has some of the worst and phoniest and contrived dialogue i have seen in a long long time. i felt bad for the actors having to say these lines and it probably helped make their performances feel worse than they actually were.
in the end my bloody valentine was better than i thought it would be but it still wasn't what i would call good. it was gory but it lacked tits. it was slow and cheesy but had a good ending. i wouldn't recommend this to the general public for the hard core horror lovers out there you might find some pleasure in watching this (to laugh at the really bad and to relish in the good).
and i almost forgot: that end credit song is amazing!!!!
