the worst thing right out of the bat is the score, like i dont know if anyone had the same experience but it sucked. piano cords one after another and then sometimes i think a violin. like that sucked. and it wasnt used a few times it was extremely used, to ridiculos extent it became annoying. the best scene in my opinion was ruined cause of the score. the rest was kind of bland, i was expecting kind of like a broken character searching for happiness but it seems like she already found it in the begining of the film so why do i even care. is it about grief cause she seems fine to me. so the... read

frances mcdormand has a rare ability to appear in films that seem by their description to be the proverbial "oscar bait," but turn out to be much more than that. i'm not suggesting that she's never done such a film, but through a potent combination of her ability to pick good projects and elevate material, a good number of films she's starred in have been able to avoid that label even if that's how they were positioned. nomadland is a great example of that. mcdormand is as good as she's ever been in chloe zhao's adaptation of the book nomadland: surviving america in the twenty-first century.... read

nomadland is an incredibly natural and authentic film that drifts at its own pace with some intensely beautiful moments. however i found myself not really engaging with the character of fern as we followed her journey. my engagement with the film really was inversely corelated with the amount the focus was on fern as opposed to the other nomads who faded in and out of the film. i don't mean that as a criticism, merely an observation. frances mcdormand gives a fine performance, but i don't think any one story can encapsulate the entire culture that nomadland is seeking to present. chloe zhao... read

Ludovico Einaudi is finally getting more recognition. I've been enjoying his music for a while now and discovered him thanks to another movie called This Is England so hopefully people watching Nomadland will look into his work and appreciate it as much as I do.
Very good movie although I wasn't familiar with the situation explained in the movie. But Frances McDormand presence throughout is mesmerising, the cinematography very well executed and every time the piano notes begins I'm in awe. read

see you down the road.i'm not entirely sure about this. i feel like the plot has ended right where it started and it's making me have so many mixed feelings, maybe because i've been hearing about it for so long and had such high expectations. however, watching this is more of a spiritual journey sustained by the achingly beautiful cinematography and impeccable score. read

particularly enjoyed the acting in this film. so naturally presented that one could almost miss the real nomads in the cast. it speaks poignantly about grief, loss and the nomad lifestyle whether by choice, circumstance or a mix of both. read

maybe i expected something more from the film, in addition to the fantastic performance of frances mcdormand . but maybe that is what the director was looking for, to leave the viewer with a feeling of coldness, as the weather in the film is, after viewing it. read

Living in her van and driving it across the States chasing temporary, underpaid gigs, a sixty-something widow becomes a part of America's growing community of aging vagrant workers. Inspired by Jessica Bruder's 2017 non-fiction book "Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century", Zhao's film also observes the way impoverishment is pushing more and more elderly citizens in treading carefully on the verge of bankruptcy, working beyond retirement time, and embracing a precarious existence where animalistic loneliness is only tempered by the occasional encounter with other modern read

-Fern is sweet, brave, sometimes silly and childish, shes perfectly comfortable living on her own but also very good with people. -Shes meeting different people and evolving part of herself that already there inside her. -You realize at some point that shes not trying to adjust to a nomad lifestyle, shes already a true free spirit nomad. Always has been.
-everyone else is a fixed character.
-felt long but I didnt-not wanna continue.
-The movie is a collection of perfect short moments then it ends. -Shot in 30fps, and that gave the true hand camera feel of watching people in their natural... read

My quick rating - 7;0/10. An exceptionally filmed flick head up by a stellar acting job by Frances McDormand. Not like she ever turns in much less than that. You definitely have to switch your pacing though since the movie is a bit slow. Ok; it is very slow since it really plays out more like a docudrama which considering it is not; also adds to how well made this is. As McDormand travels throughout the USA as a modern day nomad; it really just feels like you are there with her. All the things that being always on the move and not settling into one place. Constantly doing something different;... read

A beautiful movie about a woman who journeys through the American mid west as a nomad. Frances McDormand is excellent in her role and could go close to winning another Best Actress Oscar. Written and Directed by Chloe Zhao is might also garner her Best Director and is my tip for Best Film even though I haven't seen some of them. The cinematography shows the beauty of the Mid West and although it's slow at times I would recommend highly. read

One of the things we learn from the films of Chloé Zhao is this: bad luck is the stuff that happens before a story begins. As “The Rider” (2018) gets under way, the hero—a young fellow named Brady—already has an angry gash in his head, having tumbled from his horse at a rodeo and taken a hoof to the skull. And now, at the start of “Nomadland,” which Zhao wrote and directed, we meet Fern (Frances McDormand), who no longer has a husband, a regular job, or a home. Well, she does have a home, but its a white van that she has adapted, with lots of storage space, to be her only dwelling. She calls... read

I certainly understand why it's not for everyone. I didn't click with all of it, and perhaps would have liked it a lot more if I saw it in the cinema where it's technical strengths would shine a little brighter. Honestly I didn't find the narrative overly interesting once it became more personal in the second half, it felt a lot more structured in the first hour or so which is impressive considering the format. I definitely enjoyed it, it was a lot more optimistic than I expected and every shot was beautifully crafted, I could look at those Nevada sunsets all day. read

I maybe spent too much of my life just remembering. As in "The Rider", Chloé Zhao give to loneliness and thoughts a great depth. I loved Einaudi's musical choice in immersive scenes in nature.
Hope to see it in a theater asap. read
