what a disappointing film this was. the price was right, five bucks (many years ago). the cover was intriguing and sexy. the director was the infamous ken russell. the movie looked and sounded great. rather it was a tepid cheesy pseudo erotic cum straight to video like garbage that had a few redeeming qualities and more than double terrible ones. i didn't like this film much at all as you can tell and that infamous night stick scene, well it was just... meh... 50/100 read more

this is a weird sentence but: it's ken russell so you kind of know what to expect? absolutely bonkers 5-star moments, but just as much sex-obsessed nonsense that was impossible to stay interested in. as great as kathleen turner was it's a pity there wasn't more unhinged anthony perkins to go along with it when you consider this. i mean, you know me, there's nothing i like more than garish live-action cartoons. read more

A husband trapped in a sexless marriage meets a part-time hooker who is a rich and respected stylist in the daytime - and who's targeted by a psycho reverend. Overacted, overdialogued, overcoloured, overcome with cultural innuendos (including a soundtrack that constantly echoes Dvorak's "New World" Symphony), a fascinating wreck of a satire about American society, roles and sex that, as exaggerated as you're bound to expect from director Russell, ends up resonating with an unexpected sincerity. read more
