the stunt man is a great film from 1980 that needs to be more popular than it is. i had no idea what it would be about other than it being about a stunt man and when i watched it last night it kept me enthralled the entire 131 minutes. it starts with a guy running away from the police. he jumps, tucks, rolls, runs and rushes away and stumbles upon a movie set where he becomes the 'stunt man'. is he good guy? a bad guy? crazy? a killer? the movie does a very good job keeping you guessing. it's a great story and very original and it's filled with cool camera work, great stunts and effects, read

a thoroughly engrossing film with a incredibly captivating performance from peter o'toole. it has a sort of magical quality as the film within the film bleeds out and the lines between reality and movie magic blur. steve railsback gives a fine performance in a role that asks a lot of him. i couldn't shake how perfect jeff bridges would have been as the lead, he could have elevated it on par with o'toole's crazed director and made the stunt man one of the best films of the 80s. as it is, it settles for merely being one of the best films of 1980 with an oscar caliber turn from o'toole. read
