ah, women in prison movies. gorgeous women (usually of the 70's variety), sadistic wardens, sex, lesbianism and of course boobs, more boobs and sometimes bush. what's not to like? well sometimes they could be made so poorly it takes away from the enjoyment of the film. the big doll house is not one of those. it is a pretty well done women in prison movie and also one of the very first. i was expecting to loathe this movie but instead i rather enjoyed it. when a new prison arrives she learns right away that the girls aren't all friendly and the warden is sadistic. escape is planned and that is about the whole story right there. what makes this film better than many in it's ilk is the make-up (besides the blood) is pretty strong, the directing is solid, the lead actors are all good, the women are super sexy and the amount of boobs on display is just about perfect. then there is sid haig. i knew he was in the movie but i forgot while watching it and i kept thinking 'who is that guy? he seems familiar.'. it was a very young and unrecognizable (to me) haig and he was a blast to watch. sure some of the supporting roles are filled with awful actors, some of the dialogue is terribly bland, the story could be stronger, the editing is pretty weak, the overdubbing comes of as wooden, the last shot and moment of the film is so poorly done and the sexy warden never gets naked but so what. this film is about women in cages, cat fights, boobs and it delivers in spades and i had a great time watching it!! production design: 7 out of 10 cinematography: 6 out of 10 re-playability: 7 out of 10 originality: 5 out of 10 costumes: 7 out of 10 directing: 7 out of 10 editing: 6 out of 10 acting: 6 out of 10 music: 6 out of 10 script: 6 out of 10 63/100
