"We shall never end wars, Mrs. Barham, by blaming it on the ministers and generals, or warmongering imperialists, or all the other banal bogeys. It's the rest of us who build statues to those generals and name boulevards after those ministers. The rest of us who make heroes of our dead and shrines of our battlefields."
I'm sure this movie was gutsy at the time but an anti-war movie set in world war 2 feels insane nowadays, when that entire war has been converted into a monument to the inherent goodness of war. The snowflakes wouldn't let you make one like this nowadays.
Julie Andrews and James Garner have such great chemistry and it's cool to watch them together almost twenty years before Victor/Victoria. If the movie has any flaw it's that Andrews isn't in it nearly enough.
