at three hours and 21 minutes long, this film is gorgeously framed and never boring, despite what one might expect from a movie of such length filled with long takes of a housewife doing mundane housework. while im not suggesting that it couldnt possibly have been shortened up a little, the film nevertheless manages to remain oddly engrossing throughout its runtime. and akermans audacious experiment of attaching equal importance to the banal and the dramatic is quite admirable. that said, i didnt like the film as much as id hoped. in the disintegration of her patternized life, jeanne dielman... read more
