Review of The Warrior and the Sorceress

david carradiine plays a legendary warrior named kain (again). this time he does it as a sword fighter on another planet instead of a kung-fu master on earth. he also does it in a cheap, low-budget roger corman b-movie. is it good? not in the slightest. is it bad? kind of but in a tacky somewhat enjoyable way. is it awful? corman has made movies that are much much worse. would i watch it again? probably never. would i recommend it? i could to a select few who like these kinds of movies but generally no. for a corman flick it looks pretty good. some sets look great, others fake and rubbery. some sword play looks good, some very fake. carradine and a few other performances are solid, many though blow hard. the costumes look like leftovers from another film with no budget. the story is pretty interesting though with carradine causing all sorts of ruckus and inciting the leaders of two warring 'tribes' to destroy each other. but the best thing about this movie, and the only reason it is rated r (as the violence is rather tame) is the nudity. there is not a single female that appears in this film that isn't topless. every single one. and the lead 'sorceress' is no exception. she is basically in a thong and nothing else the whole movie. there is even one scene where carradine rescues her from a cell, puts her in a cloak for one shot and the next she;s back in the thong sans cloak. this is probably why i liked the film more than i should; this is why i could watch it again but probably won't; this is why i will always remember this film. how can you go wrong with 60 minutes of topless women? it's a young mans (or grown man who still thinks like a young man) dream come true. production design: 6 out of 10 cinematography: 6 out of 10 re-playability: 4 out of 10 originality: 3 out of 10 costumes: 6 out of 10 directing: 6 out of 10 editing: 5 out of 10 acting: 6 out of 10 music: 7 out of 10 script: 5 out of 10 54/100
