we live in a world where shit like the hangover does better than this. it's fantastic. utterly fantastic. it's even better on a second viewing. it'll be a crying shame if there's no sequel as they got so much right here. karl urban is terrific as dredd. grimacing for all he's worth and it works. olivia thirlby is superb as anderson. when i first saw the film i was worried she'd be the weak point. i was completely wrong and i'm pleased i was wrong. read more

cool as fuck. i dont know/care anything about capeshit/comics but i wanted to watch this because the raid films are my favorite action movies and people compare this to those, and i see why (big building and all that) this was good, some things were very unique like the slo-mo and the whole vibe of the movie was edgy and cool read more

ultra violence! so, i tried to watch this movie when it first came out and turned it off half way through. i didn't like it for the same exact reason i enjoyed it today. it's just non stop slow-mo action with deliciously cheesy dialog. the 2012 me was laaaame. read more

what a dreddful experience. nah, it's just a thoroughly mediocre and somewhat fun action film that doesn't live up to the cool premise it had. it's ok overall, but it kind of shoots itself in the foot with some questionable directorial choices. choices like the over-abundant cgi blood/general bad vfx work in general and unrelenting mid-2000's edge, despite being released in 2012. this movie really screams the overproduced, reliant-on-glossy-cgi look of those shitty "____: the movie" youtube videos that should be avoided like the plague. it just looks ugly. the action's fun, though. karl urban... read more

straight-forward classic action movie with proper gore. beyond that though, the setting is clearly established, some effects are very satisfying (especially those related to the slowmo drug), the fights are visceral and both cool and realistic, lena headey is always nice to watch, and olivia thirlby looks awesome. the acting from thirlby and wood harris works well and makes the script flow well. (dredd himself wears the helmet, so not much to show there.) would not rewatch, but it was fun. read more

На фоне той дефолтной хуйни, что запилил Алан Сильвестри, здесь саундтрек реально выглядит словно мем chad dredd 2012 vs. virgin judge dredd 1995. Ну а так, меня уже изначально подкупили тем, что фильм будет в моём любимом жанре "одной локации", так ещё и в стиле "Башенки из Мортал Комбата" только тут нужно зачищать этажи здания. i still maintain that dredd misses the "point" of its source material. the comic books were a satirical indictment of america's obsession with rogue cops™ (i.e. dirty harry, et al.), over the top violence, and american consumerist culture, among other things. dredd has all these elements but doesn't seem like it's satirizing them. back in the day, this would've been the material being satirized in the pages of 2000 a.d. nevertheless, as a stripped bare take on judge dredd, this lean and gritty thriller hearkens back to early verhoeven- an ouroboros of a comparison that i gleefully make to... read more

two observations that don't factor into my review: guns with voice commands are quite possibly the worst idea of all time. karl urban sounds like the name of a really bland budget clothing line. dredd (the film) is fairly edgy compared to most other comic book films, there's tons of gore and on-screen death but my anime phase a few years ago taught me that gore doesn't replace good writing. dredd (the character) is a raspy-voiced hypermasculine dystopia cyber-cop antihero who just looks fucking ridiculous because he wears a bucket on his head and i can't take him seriously in the slightest.... read more

Brutal y bella al mismo tiempo. Una cinta llena de buena acción y mucha atención al detalle. Me mantuvo interesado desde el minuto uno hasta el final. Great action, storytelling through that action. Watched this twice over the weekend, once in 2D, once in 3D through VR head set. I'd give it a 4/5 in 2D and a 5/5 in 3D just because it adds that much more with the depth that was added by shooting with a special 2-camera rig designed specifically for this movie. read more
