it is definitely a little scattered and tries to do a bit too much, particularly at the end, but the core here is quite good. it leans heavily on the performances of newman and woodward and they are both terrific performers that are able to shoulder the load here. it is unmistakably a product of the 60s culture clash, but it still holds relevance today. the atmosphere of the film is phenomenal and the way new orleans is entwined into the film without ever being a true focal point is really well done. it cribs a lot from other films, the hustler and the manchurian candidate most notably, but... read more
