how can you not like paul giamatti. he is a talent onto himself. i first remember him as pig vomit, from howard stern's private parts and he stole the show there. since then he has become an incredibly successful actor and one of the best of his generation.
so it is always a good time when he plays the lead in a movie, and usually when he does, the movie soars and scores well above typical genre fair. win win is no exception.
while it may not be the most original of stories, there is still a strong current of originality in the way the story plays out. it's funny, it's touching, it's sad and it seems very real. the realism is due in no short order to some great dialogue and stellar acting.
as mentioned, giamatti is amazing as usual. bobby cannavale gives a hilarious performance and is destined for great things and jeffrey tambor is , as usual, great comedic fodder. and then there is amy ryan, who despite being wonderful to look at, also managaes to bring heart and gravitas to her performance.
watching win win you will never be bored. you may know the outcome but there is plenty to surprise before that eventually happens. you'll laugh, you may shed a tear, you may stand up and cheer but one thing is for sure. you will enjoy the hell out of this movie, many times over.
win win is a winner!
