the aerial action sequences are pretty good, especially of the burj khalifa (sure beats the petronas twin towers in its time). watching this with my arm in a cast just made me feel for cruise in the final sequence. the guy with the girl with a dragon tattoo plays a cool villain. a lil too much product placement in this movie though. read more

i still have a problem with jeremy renner. when he's just acting he's ok. it's the action acting that i have a problem with. i just don't think he's a natural when it comes to it and it shows. tom cruise looks at ease with what he is doing and doesn't look like he's running a sequence of events. jeremy renner however does, he does something and then pauses, as if to say "oh shit, i did it" or "what's next?". pulls me out of the film quite a bit. i wish i'd been able to catch this at the imax as the building climbing sequence would have been astounding. read more

after watching this for a second time i have officially decided that the mission impossible series is teh american james bond series. think about it: ethan hunt is james bond, the iconic music theme, the opening credits sequence, the action and gadgets and spy story, the exotic locations and globetrotting. but let's discuss this movie itself. it was great. it was action packed from start to finish. it never let's up. it's very well done by the always great brad bird. right from the opening it's a rush rush rush. probably the best thing about this movie is the music and i'm not talking about... read more

i'm a big fan of the mission: impossible franchise and to be honest, i had worries about this early on. that's not to say that i didn't have high hopes for it but the third entry--despite being the best--didn't perform nearly as well as paramount wanted thanks to anti-tom cruise backlash and until this film he was far from being a sure bet again; there were some who even argued that he'd fallen way off the a-list based on the financial disappointment of the underrated knight & day. add into that the fact that they put the film in the hands of a man whose work i respect in brad bird but who... read more

the first time i saw this i was only half watching and came away underwhelmed, but i felt it deserved a second chance. it was better than i remembered, but the issues i had with it were real problems. the movie is entirely about the action scenes, which is true for every mission: impossible movie, but the rest of them (besides 2) had some human moments and strong characters that gave it something between the action setpieces. they tried to do that here, but it didn't really work. this one features the least developed ethan hunt, he is just a super soldier that does crazy stunts. the villain... read more

the franchise really picks up the pace here on the 4th movie with some brilliant action set pieces but it still slows down enough to let the actors actually act. i like that. simon "comic relief" pegg becoming a main team member was huge for the franchise. jeremy renner was a great addition and it was said at the time that he was being set up to take over the franchise because tom cruise was apparently unbankable... that wasn't the case obviously because everyone will overlook tom cruise's batshit in-real-life insanity when he makes movies this good. renner was also supposed to take over the... read more
