is the lone ranger as bad as some critics made it out to be? no, not really. the problem is simply that there's so much of it, and so little of it makes us want to care. gore verbinski loves his long movies and i take no issue with that, but this has whole subplots that are introduced for no reason and sequences of scenes that serve no purpose to the narrative. the acting from johnny depp, armie hammer and william fichtner are all just fine, though tom wilkinson phones it in a little with his generic cultured bad guy performance. yes, many action scenes are very pirates of the caribbean-esque... read more

Johnny Depp plays Jack Sparrow dressed as an Indian - so many movies donning white face paint and that crazy persona. It does work to an extent despite the movie being too long. Some great action, funny gags and nostalgia for Saturday mornings as a child made this work for me.

The concept of Tonto looking for and creating the Lone Ranger is an interesting choice particularly as he gets the 'wrong brother'. The LR pacifist thing was workable at the start but began to grate as things progressed.

Enjoyable watch if a little long.

(see: the green hornet) (on second thought, maybe don't "see" the green hornet) when the lone ranger puts on his mask and his horse, silver, rears up as the midday sun gleams behind them- i'm excited.... read more
