it is a very dull melodrama that really has very little going for it. van johnson is an uninspiring leading man and brings no charisma to this role. liz taylor and donna reed are good actresses who are fine here, but the material just isn't that great. at least walter pidgeon brings some energy to the film. there is a reason this film has been mostly forgotten, there isn't much worth remembering. read more
