the whole cast did great work with what they were given, especially mary elizabeth winstead, but the characters are definitely lacking depth. they are forgettable and interchangeable. the cgi overload didn't help with the scares at all and that is the true travesty of the thing 2011. the entire movie was shot with animatronic practical effects that the studio decided to cover with cgi 3 months before it was released... the reason for this was apparently because it "looked too much like an 80s movie". some of the making-of footage and screenshots of the "pilot cut" leaked online and they are... read

you're all wrong, this movie has some fantastic cgi. it just uses it in an unrestrained manner which leads to a few moments where it's too in-your-face, it becomes difficult to ignore its unreal qualities. worsening as the film progresses. the quality of the actual animation & imagery is pretty phenomenal for the most part. it even has a good physical sense & weight to it, such as crashing through walls, shelves etc (unlike some other movies with poor cgi). getting tired of seeing people complain about extraordinary cgi that just happens to be miss-applied to a degree. also, it absolutely read
