for their first live action film, phil lord and chris miller decided to adapt the 80's tv show 21 jump street into a modern day film version. just like cloudy with a chance of meatballs, what they did turned out to be so much better than anyone ever expected. starring jonah hill and channing tatum, this movie plays out almost like a romantic comedy loaded with action but instead of a man and a women it's two male cops who are partners. and let me tell you it is hilarious. it's self referential at parts, absurd at others, trippy in some spots, laugh out loud and die laughing throughout. there are a ton of sight gags that will make you laugh and every cast member delivers at least a half dozen lines that will make you spill your popcorn from laughing. this movie really should not of worked so well. taking a tv show about undercover cops in a high school and remaking it today could of failed hard. but the directors and writers and stars came up with a concept, a story and enough charisma to pull it off. it worked so well that it became a huge hit, made stars out of it's directors, launched a franchise and allowed me to revisit it three times so far and still love it. by far one of the best comedies of it's year. production design: 8 out of 10 cinematography: 8 out of 10 re-playability: 9 out of 10 originality: 8 out of 10 costumes: 8 out of 10 directing: 9 out of 10 editing: 9 out of 10 acting: 8 out of 10 music: 8 out of 10 script: 9 out of 10 84/100
