Review of Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star

shame on every person involved in this flagrantly unfunny disaster of a film. there are very, very few films, particular comedies, i have enjoyed less than i did bucky larson. don't get me wrong; i expected this to suck. that sort of goes without saying when you're familiar with the film and have seen a trailer or two. as it turns out, even expecting this i was not prepared. this is a movie that shakes your foundations in how bad it is. it's on a level with the seltzer/friedberg parodies in terms of badness. nick swardson is not a funny man even in supporting roles, much less as a lead actor, and performing with buck teeth while subjecting the audience to 12-year-old humor in an r-rated film is not a way to make anything of quality. every single person who involved them in this film denigrates their own careers, from christina ricci and stephen dorff to producer adam sandler and more. in an interview about the film's negative critical reaction, swardson dismissed the negative reviews by saying, "i knew the critics were going to bury us ... none of those reviewers was psyched to see bucky larson and laugh. they go in with the mentality 'fuck these guys for making another movie.' they go in there to kind of headhunt. it makes me laugh because it's just so embarrassing. it makes them look like such morons." with all due respect mr. swardson, more people--not "critics" but regular moviegoers--hate this movie than meet the spartans and many other comedic disasters. so i ask you, who looks like the moron? this is not only the worst film of 2011, but the worst theatrically-released in the last three years easily--and that's only because my hatred for the aforementioned spartans truly knows no bounds.
