let's get this right out of the way: the host is absolutely a better story than those of the twilight franchise. that being said, it doesn't qualify as a good movie in any respect. the biggest problem it has going for it is the fact that director andrew niccol is unable to find a natural rhythm to the film's tone; there are no real peaks and valleys and everything is a sterile, flat emotional line. soairse ronan and william hurt try their hardest but the need to show and not tell hurts it. additionally, stephanie meyer's seeming obsession with abusive relationships is on display here; read
