ah steven soderbergh you subversive mutha... never doing things that normal people would or making movies generically yet almost always pulling them off. this is your second film in a row, and your second last before your self proclaimed retirement, that takes genre expectations and throws them on their head. first with haywire you made a spy thriller action revenge drama that took the typical lead character and turned them into a super sturdy tough as nails female. not really done before in that largely male dominated field. now you took the stripper movie, took everything that works in the stripper movie and reversed it completely by making it about male strippers. a male director directing a movie about male strippers and doing such a fine job at it. who would of thunk it? i will tell you i was looking forward to this because a) i like soderbergh, b) i was curious about the hype and c) i like channing tatum. so how did it all fair? well... a) soderbergh does a great job directed the shit of this movie. he makes the lifestyle of male stripping seem awesome (minus a few drug and social issues) and his typical amazing editing makes the film fly by with flash, panache, style and grace. this movie was a blast and it looked great. b) and c) channing tatum was great here. how could you not love him. i am not gay, i love women, everything about them but i will say that this movie made me almost want to go see channing perform live, man he was sexy... he pretty much does the sexiest strip show i would want a female to do but better. thank god then for the sexy olivia munn who bares her boobies in this flick and for cody horn who kept my straightness in perspective, who is cody horn and why is she not in everything omg she is is gorgeous and cute and gave a great performance and man oh man did she look good in a bikini. i would give up my life for her too. i do think the film's story was a little generic and the love story between tatum and horn happened to easy based on his past performance but when you think about it you are watching a movie about male stripping so what do more can you expect? overall, a hell of a lot of fun this magic mike is. production design: 8 out of 10 cinematography: 8 out of 10 re-playability: 9 out of 10 originality: 8 out of 10 costumes: 10 out of 10 directing: 9 out of 10 editing: 9 out of 10 acting: 8 out of 10 music: 9 out of 10 script: 7 out of 10 85/100
