ah steven soderbergh you subversive mutha... never doing things that normal people would or making movies generically yet almost always pulling them off. this is your second film in a row, and your second last before your self proclaimed retirement, that takes genre expectations and throws them on their head. first with haywire you made a spy thriller action revenge drama that took the typical lead character and turned them into a super sturdy tough as nails female. not really done before in that largely male dominated field. now you took the stripper movie, took everything that works in the... read more

i did not expect to like this film yet i did. it kept me amused and the characters were much more developed than i thought they would be.it's worth a watch. glad i went with my wife though, think i'd have got some strange looks otherwise! read more

i just watched snowpiercer and magic mike, back-to-back. the latter was a good relief for the former, so while their wrappings are totally different, they were a good double feature. what was most interesting about watching these particular films together was that theyre married by their basic plots. read enough books or watch enough movies and youll eventually see the same plots crop up. in the case of snowpiercer and magic mike, it was a group of impoverished revolt and two men are bedazzled by an enchanting lifestyle. however, boil the plots down further and they equal the same thing: read more
