like "all the boys love mandy lane" just recently, this movie was ruined for me by hype. worse, it was ruined by reading pretty much any synopsis, anywhere. you know that she will fight back, but she doesn't, as if more people have to die before she (reluctantly?) kicks ass. to be fair, once the fighting back starts, it's not quite what i expected. but this didn't make the movie more enjoyable. for one thing, there was a mix of realism (everyone freaked out, loads of screaming and moaning and shock; her plans don't always work out perfectly) and severe case of cliched idiot plot. thought i'm... read more

halloween havoc 2019 horror x52 (2019) a horror released in 2011 "i want you to fuck me on this bed next to your dead mom." watched on itunes. with the casting of joe swanberg, i was assuming this was going to be a mumble-horror, but instead we get a home alone horror. and it delivers in comedy! thank god! really fun movie with a bit too many jump scares. read more

yo, fuck this movie. the title, promotional scheme, and initial premise of the movie promises something like the strangers on steroids. it's not. the whole aspect of the villains being a team of serial killers goes right out the fucking window once the 'twist' is revealed, right along with my interest with the movie. i had to struggle to finish it after the plot tipped its hand. the killers aren't just killers, they're mercenaries hired to kill this family off so one annoying fuck can claim the insurance or inheritance or something as the sole survivor. what a lame twist. like, i've got no... read more

Family reunion goes awry when a trio of masked murderers start killing them off, pushing one of the victims to strike back. Entertaining slasher movie doesn't quite fulfill the potential of its unusual setup and eventually falls back on unlikely twists: but the scares are competently handled, with cast and grainy photography conjuring up a feeling of 70s horror cinema. Oblique, deadpan humor will keep some viewers trying to guess (until the end titles, at least) how much of it was intentional. read more

Any movie Larry is in or makes tend to try to make things scary by lulling you into the mundane. Trying to force you to be apart of the movie. Usually this is too boring for me or that I tend to only deal with fiction because I want to separate myself from the mundane.  This movie somehow continues to do this even after we see the neighbors get murdered in the beginning.  I appreciate the white on white crime and the whole scene where he is trying to convince the main protag that they technically didnt do wrong was so iconic.  As well as ending the movie with accidentally killing a cop.  Most... read more
