Review of The Queen of Versailles

work is my life. i'm 24/7. i don't know any other way to do it the queen of versailles tells the story of one family from the power elite of the country who fall from grace once their money begins shoring up. but, it isn't like their pushed into the lower class either. this might be part of the reason that the family isn't quite so sympathetic, as characters. they aren't living in abject poverty. in fact, they still seem to be living better than the majority of people in this country. it makes it difficult to feel sorry for them or even sympathize with the complaints they make over the course of the film. it blunts the emotional connection with the film. still, it is a very effective study of human behavior and how they adapt to changing status in american society. that stuff holds your interest for quite a bit of the runtime of the movie but i'm not sure that it had all that much material to work with either. this felt like a short documentary stretched into a longer one unnecessarily. i felt like some of the scenes weren't necessary and made the film drag a little. i think the central story here is worth telling and i do think that its very competently made. there are some poignant moments, especially surrounding the interviews with the help that this family had hired. but, the film also had issues that stopped it from reaching its potential.
