robert redford's latest film is a polished but murky story which works because doesn't take any particular moral side. shia labeouf is decent as the young reporter who finds a conscience, but he gets circles acted around him by the many older and more seasoned actors around him including redford, susan sarandon, chris cooper, brendan gleeson and julie christie. the plot is a tricky thing; at certain points it seems distressingly close to taking a high ground for one side or another but it always falls back to the center. this is less a film about activism than it is about integrity, which makes it more relatable and better overall. it gets a bit overlong, but in the end it satisfies.
