did it really need to be this long? what was so important in that first hour and a half that it just had to be included? this was a slow movie, even when they finally hit the capital they cocked around for ages before starting the main event. then that moved slowly too. i've been told there's not even a fucking games in the next one. i love the idea of the hunger games. it could make such a brilliant film, even with the current story. instead they're trying too hard to make us admire katniss and, as a result, making a slow, ponderous film where it should be high energy instead. read more

the hunger games movies are odd in that all the "boring" talking scenes where nothing happens, which go on for approximately ninety years before any action happens, are way better than any of the actual action scenes of the movie. the last third of catching fire, the actual games themselves, are confusing and poorly paced, leading to an extremely unsatisfying cliffhanger ending. the cliffhanger itself is powerful, and the final shot is phenomenal, but because the whole third act had zero urgency it just feels like the film stopped. it is in fact, so unsatisfying that it's enough to make you... read more
