i am not a staunch opponent of horror remakes, and in this case the original is quite old, so whatever, right? not really. true, the visuals in this are great and the gore is very... gruesome, but there is nothing terrifying about it - unlike the tag promised! the original evil dead was not frightening either, but it made up for it by being campy and fun. ed 2013 is neither. since jane levy does good comedy on suburgatory, this was a complete disappointment. instead of fun, we now have the addiction/withdrawal story and the sibling drama backstory, which seemed really promising. haha. no! all... read more

this is fine in that it could have been much worse, but it thinks that horror movies have to be super gory or grounded to work, which not only misses the point for horror in general, it especially misses the point for an evil dead movie. there's some moments i like on a superficial level, but lighten up geez. read more

horror x52 (2018) i had to do a rewatch of a horror film and watch a remake of a horror film for the horror x52 challenge, so i chose 1981s the evil dead and 2013s evil dead. this is the second fede alvarez movie ive seen this month. hes not bad, but hes not great either. the remake is benefitted with a much bigger budget and has glossier and cleaner visuals than the original. but i actually like how raw the original looks. the demons in the original look way more horrifying as well. i will say, that after the first 20 minutes or so, this movie was fun and gross and gory as hell.... read more

This is the best evil dead out so far idc. Edit: Oops Chainsaw in blood rain. Still inconic. More scary than camp. Not much of a good thing camp is def preferred in this house.
