22 years after the original jurassic park comes jurassic world, a sequel that pretends parts 2 and 3 never happened. it is also better than both those sequels. sure lost world has some golden stuff in it that beats anything in this one but it also has some stuff so bad it makes this one look like an oscar contender.
now people out there are gonna hate on this movie and it's easy to see why. first, it's not the original film or as good as the original (how many films are or ever will be?) and second, it's somewhat light on plot and heavy on action and it's got a few cheesy moments.
but come on people, what do you want from jurassic 4? slow moving metaphysical meditations on the meaning of life and the idea of god? or major dino mayhem in a now opened dino amusement park? my vote is the second and this film delivers in spades.
right from the get go it is fun fun fun and action action action and it hits all the right beats. when it's not action it's comedy and when it's neither it is referencing and homaging the original. it looks good (and for me it seems to be purposefully trying to mimic the look of the first down to shots and effects) and it plays the cheese at the right level.
some people have problems with the cheesiness of the film, such as pratt riding with raptors but the film plays it well by doing things like having a character say at that very moment: 'your boyfriend is a badass.' it plays the cheesiness for laughs (for the most part) and it works and even if it doesn't you will be highly entertained by the dino mayhem that unfolds.
one last point. the original is by no means a perfect movie. it is filled with cheesiness as well and is probably the film with the most errors in editing, cutting and plot holes that ever made more than a 100 million at the box office. audiences just miss all that because they are so enwrapped in the film it goes right over their head. jurassic world does the same kind of thing (on purpose?). it's not as good a film as the original so you notice it more but in the end it's still 2 hours of fun dino carnage and is just what the doctor ordered.
