mood indigo is a weird romantic comedy love story cum fantasy cun science fiction. it's kind of like terry gilliam's brazil and at parts it feels eerily similar. it's less dystopian, more romance driven and very well done. i really liked this film (although it is no brazil - one of my favourites of all time).
at first, while watching this film, it takes you a bit to get into the world. gondry allows for this to happen by setting up the world through our main characters point of view. once we come accustomed to the world, with it's little mice, it's philosopher named jean-paul patre, it's stop motion food, and a whole lot more, the stpry kicks into gear.
the story is of course, as mentioned, a love story, and again it is told beautifully. there is great chemistry between the lovers and with gndry's whims of fantasy their love feels even stronger. i do have to admit that i thought that the film, at 131 minutes, might be too long (i thought this 30 minutes in) but by the time it ended i realized i was wrong.
i had thought that it would be a love story and somewhat predictable but i was wrong. the story twisted and turned and changed constantly. it got very dark by the end and very sad and ended completely different to how i had imagined it would end.
the more i think about this film the more i like it. it ended about 2 hours ago and i can't get certain visuals out of my head. this is a movie i look forward to seeing again.
*this review might be a bit jumbled as i just had surgery and am all hopped up on percocet. at least i feel it is jumbled.
