The Quiet Ones

the quiet ones could have been a great supernatural thriller if it had just one element: fear inducement. this hammer film is high of mood, dread, tone and is well-filmed, but it is too mannered and when it's time to scare it betrays itself by going for jump scares over any real fright. still, outside of that one (admittedly important) flaw it makes for a good thriller. the script, which is loosely based on a real-life incident, is well-written and director john pogue is effective in framing the story. the production elements feel authentic to the time period and the performances are read more

I don't know how I feel about this film. I liked it until the end. Then something made me dislike it only to have something else happen to question if I still disliked it. Its confusing. I don't really get what happened towards the end. I suppose that's the point. But its obnoxious. A decent film I suppose. Better than Oculus. read more
