quite impressive for its time. the film tackles an important subject with little nuance but the films still stands as a strong political statement on exploitation a statement that rings just as true today as it did back then.
that being said i can't say the film has aged well. there are some moments that, despite their aged simplicity, still work and are beautifully shot and composed. most of the film however, while nicely shot, felt tedious and repetitive in its direction.
near the end of the film the visuals become more interesting and slightly more striking. the sequences in question are heavily influenced by sergej eisenstein's battleship potemkin. instead of committing to the style, however, the film only dabbles in it, leaving me a bit underwhelmed.
because of the scarcity and lack of diversity in its visual style the film left me a little uninvested at times. i do appreciate and respect its historical importance and i am happy the film was granted this beautiful restoration.
