having only completed two thirds of the book before stepping into the cinema, i can only say that the director and screenwriter did an admirable job transforming the vivid text into nuanced colours, and evocative historic context. some of the book's details have been adapted to enable smoother storytelling, which was noticeable but understandable. it's rush who truly shines as the gentle loving foster father. read more

this might be the first time that i have rated a movie with a 'like' on this site that i do not actually like. for me the like button acts as a recommendation button and while i do recommend this movie for many people i myself didn't like it and to say why i must include heavy spoilers here... be forewarned... it started off intriguing as death narrates the story and it begins with him feeling bad for killing the brother of the girl we will be following. from there we continue on with the story, about that girl, her new family and how she gets along during wwii while they hide a jew in the... read more
