this was certainly an unique watch. i went into it expecting a thriller of some sort, not really that excited. then the a24 logo popped up and i got enthusiastic, since most of their movies are great, and if not, at least unique and memorable. this movie did not disappoint at all. it takes place entirely in a car, with tom hardy driving, and talking on the phone with various characters, as he is trying to repair problems during the worst night of his life. its down to earth and realistic and quite calm, yet constantly exciting and interesting. i'm glad i watched this. tom hardy is great in it, truly showing the pain the character endures, while still keeping it together. they manage to characterize his character very efficiently, his motivation makes complete sense, and his actions are believable. a mellow soundtrack plays in the background, adding to the sadness and pain throughout. my only complaint is that some of his monologues he does inbetween calls can be a bit too much, but it doesn't really detract from the movie much as a whole. locke was not the movie i expected, but i'm very happy with what it was.
