The Book of Life

this was the first ever blu-ray i owned out of a collection in the hundreds and what a mixed bag this film ended up being overall. it has wonderful animation despite being on the lower budget side of the medium,has genuine moments of comedy and offers something diverse in american theatrical animation. the musical moments can seem really out of place at times but when it's done correctly it really shines but despite having a great message at the end of the day the film plot's become stretched out,some really unfunny jokes like ice cube's character quoting his songs and a storytelling format... read more

here's a film i was disappointed with. sure it has a lot going for it in the visual department but for me it pretty much failed in every other aspect. it's not a terrible film but with so much choice out there (and the boxtrolls playing at the same time) i would not recommend this film. the book of life is about two mexican heroes who fight for the girl of their dreams and the fate of their town as world hangs on the balance of good and evil depending on who wins the girls affections. sounds like it should be fun no? well it's okay at parts and it has some decent humor but there are many read more
