a midlife-crisis mockumentary on the authenticity of the documentary process, wrapped up as a romcom highlighting the love between an older, greying, childless ny couple. not the best of films to watch on mothers' day, but it does point at an increasing generational & life-stage divide. read more

i've only seen one other noah baumbach film, greenberg, and i can already see a pattern. character driven films with humour and comedy but really they are serious drama's on the notion of life and getting older and what life has in store for you as you get older. while we're young is just the same as greenberg in that regard but the story is slightly less original, the outcome somewhat predictable and the humour a little less prominent. still, it's a good film, with some great scenes and engaging performances and it comes highly recommended by me. if you've seen the trailer don't go in read more

some of the dialogue in this movie is profoundly funny. i think it may be one of baumbach's funniest films, at least of the ones that i have seen. part of it is because the performers, especially adam driver and ben stiller, have superb comic timing and know how to deliver this type of dialogue very very well. the performers do stand out in this film because all of them are very good. through their performances and the way that the script is written, we find many many relatable characters in this film. that's refreshing to see given the many unrelatable characters that populate the screens at... read more
