the wedding ringer has a few genuinely laugh-worthy moments, which is honestly more than i expected. kevin hart and josh gad have a surprising amount of chemistry and while they're playing typecast roles in a film that tries to get by on its crassness, they work off each other very well.
unfortunately they don't have a script that does them justice. the premise is interesting enough, but at its core it is a slight variation on the much better hitch. the film relies on some gross-out antics to try and get laughs, but it is the interplay between hart and gad which actually draw humor. the supporting cast is decent but no one particularly stands out and the most of the plot is completely predictable. the film isn't as bad as it could have been, but it isn't exactly a winner either.
