here's what i have to say about american ultra. it consists of two things. first, this film is nowhere near as bad as most of the world makes it out to be. it's kind of fun, interesting and although not the most original of films, it will keep you watching until the end. the acting is pretty good, the effects work, the locations are solid, the direction is sure handed. second, this is not the ultimate stoner action comedy that they marketed. in fact it is barely a comedy. sure it has jokes and comedy, and pretty much all of them were put in the trailer, but it's more an action drama thriller. and for a stoner movie, i don't think (after the opening credits end) a single joint is smoked or anyone really gets stoned. i guess what i am saying is that this movie is not the movie i was expecting. because it was not a stoner comedy action hybrid i didn't love it like i thought i would. it wasn't a bad movie, and it's worth one watch i suppose but it wasn't the late summer undiscovered gem i thought it would be. perhaps if i see it again i'll like it better (or worse) as i know what to expect but pretty much the whole time i sat there watching it i couldn't help but think: this isn't a comedy? i was lied to. and oh yeah, kristen stewart smiles in this... production design: 8 out of 10 cinematography: 7 out of 10 re-playability: 6 out of 10 originality: 6 out of 10 costumes: 7 out of 10 directing: 7 out of 10 editing: 7 out of 10 acting: 7 out of 10 music: 7 out of 10 script: 7 out of 10 69/100
