hi guys, it's back to me with a recommendation. there is not so much going on in this movie. it is the called sf (science fiction movie). sometimes i big confuse, like where is the robots and guns? sorry, there is actually one of the two in the movie and not both, look at poster if you need know which is truth and is actually in the movie. wow, the movie is so good and deep. being deep is pretty important to being a good movie, but not required. see my review for the martian starring mark watney as will hunting. the movie is very simple and like divided in to acts (like a play). very good read

not a bad thriller, but a tad too philosophical and desolate at various parts of the story. my main gripe with the characters was that none of them were very endearing, and the movie emphasizes too much on the artifice behind artificial intelligence. read

outstanding. one of those films where you go "but... ohhh!" as some realisation hits you. cleverly made, beautiful to look at and a soundtrack to adore. i've enjoyed the writing of alex garland for a while but i'll be looking forward to any more directorial output. the sense of foreboding layered throughout and the littering of clues and pseudo-science is masterful. i had my suspicions on where this was going from quite early on and i was gloriously pleased to find out i was wrong. read

a spin on the "relationship between man and machine, but then machine betrays man" story we've all come to know and love. domhnall gleeson is fine. alicia vikander is great. not only does she have to act like a convincing person, she's has to act like a convincing ai acting like a convincing person. special effects are more than great. the "science mumbo-jumbo explaining to the audience" portions actually didn't sound like mumbo-jumbo, and there were even a few moments that surprised me such as caleb's key-card plan. my two major complaints are the villain and the plot. mr. bad guy is sooooo... read

ex machina is a sci-fi spectacular about the creation of artificial intelligence. it's also a mind bender of a film where you are not sure who to trust or how it will turn out. it's a thriller, it's sci-fi, it's a drama, it's a mystery and it's great fun. sure if you think about it it is a story that has been played out many times before but it's done in a new and novel way, shot exquisitely, tightly edited and has some fantastic make-up, special effects, sets and music. the acting by everyone involved is great but oscar isaac knocks it out of the park with a truly sublime performance. this... read

we watched this again because we saw annihilation over the weekend. i was expecting my feelings to change and hopefully like it a bit more but it caught me how annihilation did: big concepts with too little execution. enjoyable film plagued with pacing issues, just like annihilation. but it stays with you and you talk about it no matter how you felt. read

it's refreshing to see an intelligent sci-fi film that is executed extremely well. anchored by stellar performances from all three principles, ex machina doesn't let up on the dread and tension throughout the film. when it all comes to a head, it doesn't disappoint, either. the film does a good job of revealing character slowly, changing our perception of each of the characters subtly as we delve deeper and deeper into the ideas of ai that garland is exploring. our perceptions of the relationships in the film are always subtly shifting, as well. part of the tension of the film comes from the... read

for my money, alex garland's directorial debut is one of the most fascinating sci-fi films in a while. garland, previously known for writing films like 28 days later and never let me go, has crafted a knockout piece of science fiction that tackles the oft-discussed topic of artificial intelligence in a different, provocative way. the story set-up of ex machina is deceptively and fiendishly clever in its simplicity: domhnall gleeson's programmer caleb is brought out to the home of his boss, search engine ceo nathan, where he learns he is to administer the turing test to a potential artificial... read

Better the 2nd time. Kinda sad that Alex Garland went from this to Devs. This has a lot more subtlety and effort to me, it's funnier, a lot of it feels more purposeful while Devs feels out of touch and over the top in comparison. Still though, this movie is fantastic. Hope that Alex Garland continues making projects of this quality, I'll have to wait until I see Men to find out where I think his trajectory goes. read

ex machina asks the question of how far is too far in terms of artificial intelligence. at least, it answers the question of how far we can currently take ai, in tandem with all the information collected through a search engine. the film does a wonderful job of portraying a believable ai in ava, who the main character caleb interacts with through several sessions, monitored by nathan, the designer. alicia vikander does an excellent job of playing an evolving ai, and the cgi is well done throughout the movie. as a computer scientist, the film did an excellent job abstracting technical concepts... read

i will not try to write an elaborate analysis on the themes ex machina tackles. i think it's something i was able to understand and comprehend, but it's hard for me to put it in an eloquent way. what i will simply say is ex machina is a very well paced and structured- psychological sci-fi thriller, with an equally interesting and well written plot, awesome characters, plot twists and a deep yet accessible exploration of common sci-fi themes, such as nature vs nurture. i will suggest to go in blind, as this film is bold with its narrative and its best enjoyed when viewed with no idea of what... read

i'd like to shake the hand(s) of whomever did the sound editing and score. while all the acting was phenomenal, and visuals and story were engaging as hell, i think the sound editing and proper use of silence as a tension builder and the like is truly what makes this movie transcendent. read

Reclusive, multimillionaire owner of a giant software company invites a young employee to test a new artificial intelligence in a female-looking robotic body. First directing effort from novelist/screenwriter Garland believes it's stanleykubricking while in fact it's just andrewniccoling: craftily compiled from previous films and novels treading similar grounds, plot is intriguing and provocative just to a point, then goes unabashedly towards B-movie territory. Still much better than most of the recent fantasy fare, "Ex Machina" deserves to be recommended as the educated filmgoer's guilty read

Story: 6 Visuals: 9 Sound: 7 Character: 7 Enjoyment: 6
I'm watching this because of the infamous dance sequence, Oscar killing it~ Story was okay, but a bit slow, getting a little sleepy while watching (I had to rewind a couple of times to see what I miss)... well, I didn't expect much and it turns out just as expected, which is not much. The visual was HOLY~ this 'future' may not be far from where we are now, humans have built human-like robots, we had AI who could interact like humans, and we have AI who can make art better than humans... well if this is what the future gonna be like in 20 or 50 years from now, I hope I'm dead by then XD ... read moreWas this review helpful to you?

My quick rating 7;9/10. A very well-made movie that tackles a few interesting subjects. This philosophical approach to "what makes us "human" and how would you react if you could just be "turned off" are a couple of deep subjects that are touched upon. This does lead to a slightly plodding pace at times since each part is very well written and often gives the viewers a moment or two to seriously consider what had just been said. The story involves a study for a man (who won his way into this test) to test a robot that has AI that simulates a human brain in rational thought and self-awareness.... read

This movie was done quiet well but for me it was just missing something. I realise this is not an action sci/fi thriller but given the context of the movie it would of been more entertaining. It was a bit drawn out I thought but can see why a lot of people would like it. The movie doesn't have a large cast and all three major stars acted well. The location of Norway was interesting and added to ambience I guess.I liked it more than hated hence the 3 stars. read

It was long but the ending made me nut ngl, the shots are pretty good but for A24 they arent the best compared to other movies they have made. The thing that blows my mind is how they did Eva with the budget they had. Its absolutely astonishing what they had to do with the CGI and that they pulled it off. read

It's not a masterpiece, and Oscar Issac acts rings around everyone else so it's a shame how un-nuanced his character ends up being, but it's a not-terrible sci-fi movie so I ain't gonna complain. read
