Review of Zootopia

Plot Summary:
In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.

Personification: noun - the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman. It's incredible how often Disney uses personification to tell a story - often with animals, but they've also used Cars, Planes, Toys, and even feelings to do the same thing. Sure, they'll use certain animal themes to get the story across and separate it from actual humans, but come on, people - they're so obviously people.

Story: 9

Well-deserving of a Disney title.

What is pretty commonly seen as a requirement in Disney films? A moral to the story - which is something covered earlier on in 'Zootopia' - the idea to go for your dreams and not let anyone stop you...which has been done before so many times - but it's welcome here as well. As our title character learns quickly that her dreams are not easy to accomplish - especially when everyone is already anticipating you'll be terrible at the job because, well, you're a bunny. Likewise with our side-character - who had a presupposition that he'd always be sneaky and live like a criminal...and unlike Officer Hopps, he decided to settle and go with the flow, because why not - that's how people would always see him anyway.

The movie was initially going to center on the Fox, and that does make some sense with the message they were trying to spread. His story has more meaning than the bunny - as it is deeply rooted in prejudice and discrimination - while the bunny seems to just be sexism and naivety. I'm sure you can pin prejudice with her as well, but not so much when she was still able to get a position that, at least in theory, comes with respect and honor. The Fox was always, always doomed to live in the shadow of others. That being said, the bunny is still the better character to connect with - so I think they made a great choice for the center character, while still maintaining the meaning behind everything.

Character: 9

Get ready for Halloween, boys and girls, because it's going to be a Zootopia out there.

Why is character so important in Disney, because of marketing! Kid's need to get toys in happy meals, and stuffed animals from superstores! That may be true, but I believe it goes deeper than that. A child needs to be able to connect with the character so much that they will want to see the movie again. That is what I believe it's all about, and 'Zootopia' is a great example of fun, enjoyable characters that kids can connect with - complete with an all-star cast that is recognizable.

Enjoyment: 8

To be completely fair and honest, I've seen better from Disney animation. It's not to say this was any bad or anything, but I do prefer other movies to this. This was a fantastic movie that my kid sat and watched, laughed, and danced to whatever was happening on the screen - it's great, that's not something I'm fighting. I'd even agree to watch it again - I just have to take the other Disney animations into consideration. I'll say this fits right in with the others, it's just not my favorite. Still a great, fun movie. Check it out!

Yes, enjoyment is the biggest weakness. I dont like stupid jokes, where the point is "look how small he is!" , and this same joke was repeated many times over and over again. I think that 8 stars for enjoyment is way too much here, i am giving that high rating only to really awesome movies that seems to be almost flawless.
