Eight years of blowing up the silver screen with the Marvel Cinematic Universe has left the Marvel Cinematic universe feeling a little unsure about things blowing up. It turns out the Avengers are gathering a little heat after creating so much destruction throughout the years in all these movies. Yes! Finally, a movie where there is a tug of responsibility when it comes to Superheroes destroying things. You can now take this moment to tell the rest of the Avengers your famous quote, Pete. There was clearly no doubt Spider-Man would be on Iron Man's team. None at all. Because Iron Man was always on the side of great responsibility while the Cap and his boys were all about...integrity? The heat that is gathered is tearing the relationships and friendships this once great team had into two separate entities, hence creating a "civil war." Getting deeper into this story would fall into spoiler territory, so I'll stop there

What I will say is that yes, this film is long. It's two and a half hours long, but what do you really expect from a movie that may as well have been called Avengers: Civil War? If you're wondering, all of the Avengers plus or minus a couple - are in this movie. Here's where that's a problem. The film is still introducing characters an hour and a half into the thing.

On one hand there was a lot happening all over the place in this flick, on another, it was written really well so the audience could still follow the movie and understand everyone's motives. In a film that has so much going on, it's clearly a difficult challenge to keep the audiences attention. Lots of action and lots of characters does not do that - story and character writing does, and to be honest, this film had plenty of it. Ambition is not a feature this film lacked on, but too big of an ambition is sometimes a flaw as well - so I'll just leave it at this - movies aren't capable of everything, and they did what they could in the time allotted.

Let's just say that without animation, Marvel workers would be out of a job!

Marvel will always feel a need for animation, they just will. While you can argue all you want about the necessity for practical effects, I'd like to point out that Marvel knows what they are doing. No, sometimes it doesn't work as well as it'd like... The first Avengers film lacked in that department briefly, but otherwise... they've always been top notch.

No, there isn't a lack of characters in Captain America: Civil War, there's an over-abundance of character.

"The film is still introducing characters an hour and a half into the thing. "

I would be remissed if I didn't at least mention that the pacing in this movie almost loses footing. There's just so much happening in it that I'm not really sure what to focus on, and once I make a decision, another sub-story or character is introduced. An hour and a half is too late to introduce anyone else - if introducing them seems impossibly cluttered in the beginning, please save them for another movie. That being said, I'm glad they did introduce Spider-Man - I just wasn't the biggest fan on how they introduced him. It was out of nowhere, and it just needed something stronger in this explosively epic universe.

To say you won't enjoy this movie is to say a lie.

You don't need to be a super film critic to enjoy this thing. There's a lot of really great action and choreography that has been expertly crafted to appear as if it's the best out of the entire MCU - I'm on the fence when it came to some of the really quick transitions that felt a little unnatural, but that could also be seen as a style of filmmaking - and a style is up to the artist, not me. In the end, it is a fun film, that's for sure.

So do I recommend this movie? Sure, why not. If nothing else, it’s a lot of fun and introduces Spider-Man and Black Panther - who will be much more important later in the MCU storyline.
