citizenfour is a brilliant, engrossing look at edward snowden's actions. director laura poitras captures her conversations with the most famous whistleblower of the modern era alongside reporter glenn greenwald and others, and the results are spectacular. the film presents a gripping look at snowden as a person and more specifically at how the release of his documents came about. when, at the end of the film, snowden is blown away by another whistleblower's planned revelations it is shocking because you can't imagine what would surprise him at this point. it's a documentary that everyone read more

this was probably an incredible and shocking thing to watch in 2014 but now, 4 years later, this isn't that interesting to me. maybe it's just because i'm interested enough in the subject matter to have read up on pretty much everything in this documentary before watching it. but overall i was quite bored because pretty much none of this was new to me. read more
