results is a dry, witty and, ultimately, very funny observational comedy following three interesting characters as they attempt to navigate personal relationships and interactions. bujalski, wisely, does not force unnecessary plot onto these characters and allows them to breathe and exist in their own world. this isn't a film about what happens, but rather, a film about humans, their complexities, their relationships, and how they change. and change they do, despite the lack of much of a plot. these three characters are fully developed and complex human characters. while other romcoms skew towards defining characters with one trait, or maybe two diametrically opposed ones, there are shades of grey to these characters. they can't be defined easily in a few words. that's part of what makes it so interesting to spend time with these characters and to plunge ourselves into their world. characters as complex as these require complex performances that standout. all three of the leads in this film stand out. they inhabit their characters so naturally and fit their roles so perfectly. these characters were written with them in mind and it certainly shows. i can't imagine any other performances for these roles being any better than the ones in this film. however, there are some pacing issues here and there and i think that a little more judicious editing would have pushed this film to true greatness. a few of the scenes just felt as if they lingered too long and some stretches of the film just seemed to linger a bit too much. but, this film is truly a find and a very rewarding film for those who have the patience to get through some of the pacing issues.this is truly one of the better comedies that i have seen from this year.
