wtf even? pretty, nonsensical, badly built attempt at a horror. horror drama? uh, exploration of... grief? no, i can barely type that without snorting. there is zero, zero, zilch, absolutely no human feeling involved in the fragments of this story. midway through the movie, the discount therapist nanny posed for a statue for the grieving husband and dad, with cuts to her moaning and writhing about alone in bed. when she then slept with ghad, i thought surely it was a dream because why even? and then she falls sick and is buried alive in the wall which surely was a dream because the dead wife was also there and alive in a ghostly way. well, no, and yes. no, she did become the new mommy, and yes, she had dreamed of being walled in... because reasons. for both. and as she woke up, the child accepted her and was healed. because more reasons. the same ones, probably: it was like this in the original book. that one probably included some actual progression and character motivations and such minor details that have no place in a pretty, pretty picture. it's not a horror movie either. there is no suspense, no scares, not even any actual drama because the set pieces fall flat and unconnected. a reveal (oh noes, she was a ghost all along!) does not a horror make because it's, at best, creepy in retrospect. the movie always rushes along, without leaving time and space for dread.
