every fucker on the planet seems to have seen this before me and said it was awesome. they were all right. why the hell this didn't get a much wider release is a criminal act of ineptitude. delightfully demented story which is utterly bollocks but a fantastic allegory for the world. the visuals are outlandish and the pallette grows increasingly bizarre the further up they go before winding back down as they reach the front. i'd seen plenty of reviews loving this film but i'd not read anything more in detail. i'm glad i hadn't. that gut punch at the end of curtis proclaiming that he hated read more

sometimes i write reviews right after watching a film. sometimes i wait a bit. sometimes it is better to wait a bit, like with snowpiercer. i didn't wait on purpose, i was just busy but i am glad i did. why? because the more i think about this film the more i like it. i have wanted to see this film for ages and finally got to and it lived up to the hype. it's about a post apocalyptic world where the survivors are on board a train. that's all i'll say about the plot. let's instead talk about why this was so good. for one, it was very original. you really haven't seen many things like this read more

one of the things bong joon ho fails at in okja and snowpiercer is that he fails to give importance to body language. if you pay attention, you'll realise the americans are exhibiting behaviours seen in korean films rather than an american film. he fails to understand that americans aren't as quirky with their motions or that their speech isn't as dramatic as koreans. thus a certain amount of realism is lost in both these films. read more

A highly entertaining and visceral ride that, despite its linear approach, manages to boast plenty of twists and turns. The film not only succeeds in providing an interesting back story to an unusual premise, but also reinvents the poor VS rich-conflict, effectively setting the stage for an array of beautifully shot action sequences. The ending is great as well and should provoke interesting discussions. Hollywood needs to be transferred to Korea. read more

What a ride! I really enjoyed this film. It seemed very weird sometimes because of the attitude of some characters that didnt make sense to me. But it's a really good movie. The story is solid, the ending could be disappointing for some people. 8.5/10 read more

Snowpiercer is a dystopia film that isn't like any other. The film is centered around being in this train and the horrifying things it takes to keep it running year after year. The film takes a common idea and takes it to the next level. I never thought you could make a film like this and it not be bad. The film is about 2 hours long and never ceases to hold you on the edge. Survivors of global catastrophe fight each other for control over the solar-powered train they're all traveling on. Loosely based on Jacques Lob's and Jean-Marc Rochette's graphic novel "Transperceneige", dark dystopian fantasy has enough dreamlike energy to push credibility through a series of premises that get increasingly demanding on viewers' disbelief. Ok, so I came into this film expecting a Captain America film, I was dead wrong. And honestly, I was kind of happy that was the case. There was so much done right with this film, its SO GOOD. This film reminded me of a lot of Battle Royal, especially the train slaughter scene. The whole concept and setting of the film are both also really well done. Damn! This was a lot more brutal than I expected. Also, I thought zombies were involved for some reason...this film has no zombies. I would compare this movie to Children of Men, kind of just a wild ride from start to finish where no one has plot armor and anything could happen. It's unconventional in many ways and I appreciated all the risks it took. Despite being such an A-list actor, I haven't seen Chris Evans much outside of Marvel so I was interested in seeing what he would bring to this very different world. This film is pretty. That's literally all it has going for it. To call its metaphors and messaging "heavy-handed" is to call a black hole "heavy," or to call absolute zero "a touch chilly." This is politics for idiots, delivered at a level that a ten year old could think beyond. But those face-palming failures are not why this might be the dumbest film ever made. A really solid movie (Almost 4⭐) with a cool ass premise and simple message told in a very straightforward way that makes for a very engaging watch. The movie is perfectly paced and kept me from fidgeting away for the most part.
