a stellar performance and heartfelt look at the struggles and challenges of singer-songwriters, from being true to one's feelings/identity/self-worth, to daring to venture, to connect, and ultimately, love, despite the curveballs that life throws at you. i especially liked the french and acoustic renditions by gaga, and cooper's convincing acting. read more

Took me till 30 min in to remember that Jackson was played by Bradley Cooper, showing just how excellent he was. While I have always enjoyed Lady Gaga's music, I have always been put a little off by her costumes in the past, but seeing her in this movie was just wow for me. The music and the acting from all involved just blew me away.

having seen all of the past incarnations, i knew what the story was going to be, but it was still very effective. it is on par with the original, and far superior to any of the other remakes. the story was changed in ways that made it fresh and timely without losing the core of the story. bradley cooper gives a great performance on both sides of the camera displaying great talent as a director. he should receive an oscar nomination for both his direction and acting. lady gaga was very strong as well in her performance. sam elliott was incredible too, i just wish he had more screentime. he read more

i started watching this movie only after seeing its high rating on imdb. i had already seen a hindi remake of the same story (aashiqui 2) and liked it. and i must say it was worth a watch. the acting was superb from both the actors lady gaga and bradley cooper. what i really enjoyed was watching the two actors sing their songs. read more

i, uh... don't really know what to say about the movie. i feel it was alright, the songs and lady gaga's acting was pretty neat. however, i still don't understand why does it have that awful color grading?? if there was any moment in which they should have used a very lively and vibrant color palette, it was here, and in my opinion they really wasted the chance. overall, it's an enjoyable take on the story, that knows how to use all the known tropes associated in a quite effective way. 9.1/10 read more

Troubled rockstar pushes a newcomer to stardom as his own career starts fading. The third official remake of William Wellman's 1937 classic (and the second one trading the movie world for the rock scene after Frank Pierson's 1976 version starring Streisand and Kristofferson) is overlong and doesn't really hold up 'till the end, but Cooper and pop diva Lady Gaga have all the chemistry to make their team-up work effectively. read more

72 Don't see the hype. It is feel-good and formulaic. Bradley Cooper is a notch above his self. Despite this being a directorial debut, his acting captivates us more. Not sure if the whole remake was re-remade for Lady Gaga (as she was cast). Gaga(or Lady?) is very good on screen, I haven never seen her sing/perform as I am not a fan. It is difficult to not compare to Crazy Heart, Walk The Line, and myriad of other music-love tales from the basket. Perhaps the nostalgia it creates for the American film industry and viewership is overhyping it. Oscars? Naah. A nomination here and there... read more

It's good! It's not going to surprise anyone with its story or major character beats but the soundtrack is good and definitely well-performed, not to mention the great performances from Cooper and Gaga. The big marketing pitch for this movie is its authenticity, and I'd say it actually manages to live up to that fairly well. It tells the story you'd expect but it tells it well, and it does it with a lot of powerful, memorable musical performances. read more

It's not a perfect movie, but it's not terrible either. You can pretty much guess how the story will go once you start watching it. The main criticism it receives is for being full of clichés. However, when it comes to the musical aspect of the film, I think that part is really good. In conclusion, it's not a film that will add a lot to you. A Star is Born is directed by Bradley Cooper, his directorial debut, and stars Cooper, Lady Gaga and Sam Elliott. This film is the fourth remake of the 1937 film of the same name. Cooper plays a musician and helps a young singer, played by Lady Gaga find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. The film has admirable music and has excellent singing, particularly from Gaga (which is not surprising). Its beautifully shot and has great cinematography and is a generally well-made film.
