i was nervous about this film going in and coming off the director's last one, open windows which was awful. i had hoped for good things but after open windows i was hella nervous. i needn't off been. this was great. original, smart, well written and poignant with a heavy dose of metaphor and messages about the sexes, mental illness and abuse. it's a drama, a heavy drama with sci-fi and fantasy elements and some comedy (although i wouldn't call it as such like many people seem to be). i touch overlong and maybe too much set up which makes the pace drag a touch but otherwise pretty pretty read more

i read a review for this movie on imdb (i know, i know) and the review said, as his closing line: "even a die hard anime fan would have trouble watching this to the end." hahaha, what? what does that have to do with anything? this is a dramady about toxic masculinity and male fragility. it also happens to have a giant monster in it. which is almost incidental. i loved how it inverts the tropes of your average rom com, and does something bizarrely different. people wanting a comedy or a giant monster movie will probably be upset, but hey- this isn't that kind of movie. people need to know what... read more

is a bit of drama, bit of comedy mixture with a quite original story. the alcoholism drive works well. it may not excell as an overall film as i would have hoped but it's definitely a movie you should watch if you have the chance. read more
